Overview: Amyris essential oil, commonly known as West Indian Sandalwood is obtained by steam distillation of the bark of AMYRIS BALSAMIFERA. Amyris is a tree found in the West Indies, particularly in Haiti and grows up to 60 feet. It is known as West Indian sandalwood though it has no relations with the actual East Indian sandalwood. The tree is in the citrus family and produces clusters of small white flowers. The oil has a pale yellow to amber yellow colour. Amyris essential oil is often referred to as poor man’s sandalwood. The oil has gained high significance in the aromatherapy industry due to the scarcity of East Indian sandalwood oil. However, amyris essential oil has its own characteristic smoky woody, herbaceous, earthy aroma and is an excellent fixative in perfumes and aromatherapy blends. The amyris tree is in the “Torchwood” family due its fragrant flammable resin. We supply the Amyris essential oil of Haiti origin which is tested and packed in France.

COMMON USE: Amyris essential oil is often used in aromatherapy blends as a stress buster. It is said to have beneficial properties for skin but no scientific citation available. The oil was traditionally used by the native Caribbean’s for its calming and sensual qualities. Amyris essential oil is used to soften dry and irritated skin and also used as a massage oil to relax stiff muscles. Because of its woody, herbaceous, earthy and refreshing aroma, Amyris is widely used in the manufacturing of fragrances, cosmetics, soaps and incense. The oil is regarded as an excellent fixative to extend the fragrant life of an aromatherapy blend.
Blends well with Bergamot, Cedarwood, Black pepper, geranium, Lavender, Myrrh, Rose and Ylang Ylang essential oils.
