Overview: Nutmeg essential oil is sourced from the dried kernels of the Myristica fragrans tree native to the Spice Islands of Indonesia. Nutmeg is now widely cultivated in Kerala which is known as the spice hub of the world. Nutmeg trees will need to age for a minimum of seven years for production. The yield when distilled is high however the quality of production depends on the content of Myristicin in the oil. So basically speaking this product production requires high care and expertise. Nutmeg oil is used for intestinal disorders in Ayurvedic applications. It is used as a massage oil believing it has antirheumatic properties, and antiseptic though there are no scientific validations for this purpose. Authorities have warned that the excess usage of nutmeg can cause adverse effects in humans.
