Overview: Benzoin Sumatra Resinoid is produced from the tears/gums of the trees in the species Styrax. Due to its fixative properties, Benzoin is a common ingredient in the manufacturing of perfumes and incense. It has great significance in religious practices in orthodox Christian churches and Hindu temples. There are two common varieties, Benzoin Sumatra and Benzoin Siam.
Production: Benzoin tree is a native species of southeast Asian forests. It is growing only in the rainforest. This tree is cultivated and produces a resin which is called gum. This gum “tears” comes from incisions cut into the bark of 7 to 10 years old trees. It is collected all year round. It has a very sweet balsamic note due to its natural vanillin content. The tears of benzoin are washed two times by ethanol on a mixing helico agitator. If these washes are concentrated at room temperature the product obtained is the resinoide. If these washes are Chilled, it will be the absolute. We supply Benzoin Sumatra absolute and resinoid as well as Benzoin Siam packed and tested in Grasse, France.
