Overview: Civet Absolute is produced from the glandular secretion gathered from various species of the Civet Cat, with a preference for males. This unique secretion, characterized by a distinct faecal note and a paste-like consistency, serves as a valuable resource in the fragrance industry. The resulting resinoid or absolute is widely used as a specialized fixative in numerous premium fragrances. The paste which contains a lot of insoluble fatty oils is washed directly with ethanol. After chilling these washed materials, the Civet Absolute is obtained. The yield is relatively low, with 1 kg of paste producing approximately 250 grams of Absolute. Notably, a Civet cat typically yields around 50 grams of paste annually, necessitating the collection from 80 cats to produce 1 kg of Absolute.
Due to ethical considerations and wildlife protection, the production and sale of Civet Absolute are subject to strict regulations, requiring CITES certification. Our offerings include two distinct qualities of this product: a standard Civet Absolute and a water-like colourless variant, both originating from Ethiopia.

COMMON USE: Civet Absolute was highly prized in perfumery for its remarkable fixative properties, contributing to the enhancement and rounding out of fragrance compositions. Often utilized as a base note in classic perfumes, it bestowed depth, warmth, and richness, particularly in oriental, chypre, and animalic fragrances. Recognized for its animalic scent reminiscent of natural musk, Civet Absolute became a sought-after alternative to musk derived from the musk deer. The musky undertones added a sensual and warm foundation to perfumes, while its distinctive animalic and leathery aspects made it a valuable ingredient in leather-themed fragrances, crafting authentic and evocative character in scent profiles.
