Overview: Cognac essential oil is native to the town Cognac in France. Cognac Essential Oil is a speciality oil used by high end natural perfume manufacturers. In the northern hemisphere the harvest of grapes takes place from September to October. The wine finishes its fermentation before Christmas and starts to settle. This settlement is filtered. The remaining paste is called, “lies”. It is a deposit of dead yeast that precipitates. France’s best lies are coming from white wine of Alsace and Italian ones from Barolo. These lies are stored all around the year in plastic drums under nitrogen for no alteration. The French government assists with the steam distillation as the alcohol remaining in the lies has to be officially declared.
The Cognac essential oil is produced by steam distillation of lies under pressurised temperature of 125° C. This process helps to remove all aromatic components of the lies. The yield is very poor, and many times do not exceed 1 kg of oil for 1 ton of lies. It is common to offer two qualities of cognac oil, green and white. Same lies give white cognac essential oil in stainless steel equipment and green cognac essential oil in copper equipment. We normally provide the north France origin Cognac essential oil.
