Overview: Origanum essential oil is produced by steam distillation of the dried leaves of the Origanum Vulgare, a species in the mint family. The plant is native to the Mediterranean but now widely grown in the Northern Hemisphere. The plant is also known as wild marjoram, and has beautiful purple colour flowers. The main chemical constituent of origanum oil is carvacrol, which has a pungent “oregano” odour popular in herbal perfume blends. The percentage of Carvacrol is dictating the price of the oil. So when you get a cheaper oil, please check the percentage of carvacrol in it. Origanum oil’s aroma is spicy, herbaceous, and powerful, with a unique medicinal top note that remains popular in European soaps and cosmetics. The plant is cut with a rotor and automatically sent in the mobile steam distillation unit. Origanum essential oil is obtained by regular steam distillation on dried cut flowers and leaves. Our French partner MPE produces between 900 to 1100 kg of oil in a year and we can provide a very competitive price for bulk purchases. This product is pure and natural product, according to Council Directive 1334/2008 EEC and complies with the AFNOR ISO 13171 standard. Common use: Origanum essential oil is widely used in flavouring preparation. When combined with ingredients such as lavender, or linalool high oils, origanum oil provides a powerful and complex base for soap perfumes and detergents. People use origanum essential oil for infections, burns, and other purposes. Origanum essential oil is used as a massage oil for inflammations and discomforts related to arthritis. However these uses are based on beliefs and no scientific evidence is available to support the benefits. Origanum essential oil is widely used in aromatherapy as an immune system booster.
