Orris essential oil NZ
100% PURE THERAPEUTIC GRADE ESSENTIAL OIL
Overview: Orris butter essential oil is often called as orris butter. Many people think that it is an absolute but actually it is an essential oil in a thick butter like consistency. There are two types of Orris essential oil, Iris Germanica L and Iris Pallida. Germanica comes from Morocco and Pallida from Italy and China. Orris essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the pulverised roots. Orris butter essential oil is perhaps the rarest and costliest essential oils and is mainly used in perfumes and body lotions. The interesting part of the plant in our industry is the root which contains Irone. One hectare of orris will yield about 12 metric tons of roots. When roots are fresh the irone is very low, many times under 2 to 3%. With age the irone content develops, a two to three years storage will give the best content of irone. It is also understood that irone is concentrated inside the roots and not into the peel. The plant grows in Pallida in the Yunnan region in China and on a limited surface in Tuscany, Italy. The irone contain can go from 7 to 16%. The yield is very poor. One metric ton of 2 years old Chinese Pallida roots will yield 800 grams of 8% irone only. Orris butter essential oil is a key ingredient in high-end natural perfumes as a base note and also a fixative which helps prolong the longevity of the aroma. We supply two grades of orris oil, the 8% Irone and the 15% Irone, tested and packed in France.
